Why use Lap on Windows?

Lap works directly with your existing folders, so there's no import step and no lock-in. Your photos remain ordinary files you can open in any other app.

Who it's for

Organizing a Windows photo library

Most Windows photo collections grow the same way: a Pictures folder, one or two folders copied from a phone, exports from a camera, and downloads that were never filed. Lap points at those folders directly, so you can start organizing without moving anything first.

  • Add one or more libraries and browse them together or separately.
  • Import with drag and drop or copy and paste, either into the library or out of it.
  • Rename, move and delete files inside Lap; supported grouped assets such as Live Photo parts and enabled RAW + JPEG pairs stay together.
  • Rescan folders so Lap picks up files added outside the app.

Date-organized import

When you import from a card or a phone backup, Lap can file photos into day, month, year or single-folder layouts, keep the original filenames, and skip files it has already seen. That gives you a consistent folder tree without keeping a second copy of your library.

Tags, collections and culling

Collections and tags group selected files in bulk without moving or duplicating the originals, which fits the common case of wanting a small set such as a year in review inside folders that stay as they are. For shoots, the four-pane comparison viewer and picks or rejects culling states speed up choosing which frames to keep.

Browsing and searching a large library

Once folders are added, Lap builds an index so you can filter by date, camera, lens, location or rating, and search by text or by a similar image. The map view plots where photos were taken and follows the current filters, which helps when one trip is spread across several folders.

Import from a camera or phone

Card readers and phone backups appear as ordinary folders in Windows. Point Lap at them and import with a date-organized layout, or copy the files to a folder first and let Lap index it. Either way the originals stay your files, sorted the way you choose.

Duplicates and the files OneDrive leaves behind

If you use OneDrive, your PC often ends up with a synced copy and a local copy of the same photo. Lap's duplicate cleanup finds matching files and reports the space you can reclaim, then lets you move unwanted copies to the trash in bulk. Because Lap works from your disk, it sees the local files whether or not OneDrive is running.

What stays local

Lap keeps collections, tags, ratings, culling states and its AI index in a local database rather than in EXIF or sidecar files, so your photos remain ordinary files and uninstalling Lap does not delete them. RAW and HEIC files are decoded locally with LibRaw and libheif, and video is processed with a bundled FFmpeg, so nothing has to be uploaded to be viewed. Check supported formats before importing an unusual file type, and see download for the installer and system requirements.
